Space Jam 2 cast is taking shape
By Dave Daniels
The Space Jam 2 cast is rounding out quite nicely.
It seems like Anthony Davis and LeBron James will be castmates before they are teammates on the hardwood.
Davis, Damian Lillard, and Klay Thompson are set to appear in Space Jam 2 with James, and there will also be some WNBA stars like Diana Taurasi, Nneka Ogwumike, and Chiney Ogwumike in the film. Taurasi is supposed to have quite a large role according to AZ Central.
It’ll be interesting to see what Lillard does in the picture because he is by most accounts the best rapper in the NBA. Hopefully, we get to see him spit some hot fire.
Actress Sonequa Martin-Green will play LeBron’s wife in the movie. They are filming this summer, and then it will be released next summer. Other players from both the NBA and WNBA will be in it as well, but R. Kelly most likely won’t be involved this time.
It’s interesting that Thompson will be featured because he’s currently rehabbing a torn ACL that occurred during Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, and so he better make sure that there are no aggravations to his injury during filming.
Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Shawn Bradley, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, and Muggsy Bogues were in the 1996 Space Jam, and Barkley, in particular, was quite funny. Be gone wannabe, be gone.
James moved to Los Angeles in part to build his entertainment empire behind the camera as a producer, and, in front of the camera, he was downright hilarious in “Trainwreck”. That bodes well for Space Jam 2.
James and Davis will be teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers next season after the New Orleans Pelicans traded their franchise player, but the good news for the Big Easy is that Zion Williamson is on the way in the 2019 NBA Draft. The Lakers will have their sights set on a championship next season for sure, though, especially after Damon Jones had this to say about their potential to land Kawhi Leonard in free agency.
Space Jam 2 will be in a theater near you on July 16, 2021, and here’s hoping that Barkley and Bill Murray at least make a cameo.
