Fantasy Baseball 2019 June 21 Pitcher Streaming Options
By Bill Pivetz
The streaming options for the June 21 slate of games leaves a lot to be desired but if you look deeper, there is some fantasy baseball value to be had.
Streaming Fantasy Baseball pitchers is never a sure thing. You’re taking a chance on a pitcher that no one wants to own on their team in order for you to move up a few points or edge out a head-to-head victory. But, it’s a part of fantasy baseball.
The slate of pitchers for June 21 features some of the best in the league, Chris Sale, Trevor Bauer and Stephen Strasburg. However, unless you own them or make a trade, you’re not going to have them on your team. If you want to win, you have to take risks and streaming is how to do that.
The pitchers you stream aren’t perfect. They may walk a few batters or give up a couple of runs but you should already know that. As long as they can help you in whatever category you need without hurting the others, then you already won.

The four pitchers I picked as my streakers are all owned in less than 20 percent of ESPN Fantasy Baseball leagues.
Mike Leake, vs BAL
Leake has been really good over his last four starts. He has four straight quality starts including a one-run complete game against the Astros on June 5. Leake also had good starts against the Angels, Twins and A’s.
He recorded a 20:2 K:BB ratio with a 2.40 ERA in his last 30 innings and 3-0 record in that span. Pitching against the Orioles should help to continue that streak.
Power hitter Trey Mancini was hit on the elbow during an at-bat and is day-to-day. The rest of the Orioles lineup is pretty weak.
Leake is owned in 18.6 percent of ESPN leagues. His ownership should go up heavily for this start.
Sandy Alcantara, @PHI
The Marlins have done a good job with the starting pitchers they have. Pablo Lopez, Trevor Richards and now Alcantara. Over his last four starts, he has a 1.88 ERA, 20 strikeouts, 12 walks and a .226 batting average against.
You would think going against the Phillies would not be a welcome start but that offense has looked stagnant this month. They are hitting .226 with 64 runs scored and 20 home runs in 16 June games.
Alcantara does have some control issues but he’s been able to get out of trouble. The Marlins offense may not support him to get the win but he could get you a quality start.
Taylor Clarke, vs. SF
The Diamondbacks rookie hasn’t pitched well this season. That’s what happens when you face the Rockies and Dodgers in back-to-back games. Luckily, he’ll face an easy offense in the Giants this start.
The Giants are hitting .232 with 63 runs scored this month. Clarke has 25 strikeouts to nine walks over 30.1 innings. With a bit more control and a pitcher-friendly park in Chase Field, he should have a better start than what we’ve seen.
Jeff Samardzija, @ARI
On the other side of the field is The Shark. Despite losing five of his last six starts (some of that is on the offense), he’s pitched decent recently. In that span, he has a 4.55 ERA and a 27:10 K:BB ratio.
The Diamondbacks are sixth in home runs this month with 32. However, they are hitting .247, 19th in the league. At home, they have a .238 average and 38 home runs, both in the bottom third of the league.
Even with the high ERA, Samardzija does not give up many long balls. His 42.5 fly ball rate is four percent lower than last year and his groundball rate is five percent higher.
Unfortunately, this game could be either a low-scoring pitcher’s duel or a slugfest.
The four pitchers listed have a good chance to walk away with a win or quality start. They can rack up the strikeouts without damaging your ratios too much. Proceed with caution but enjoy the rewards.
