5 things we want to see in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel
1. A better story
Other than the dungeons, another aspect that could’ve been improved, which we hope happens in the sequel, is the story. For every Zelda game, the story plays a major role. In fact, it’s one of the reasons why people even play this series in the first place. The stories do a great job getting you emotionally involved with it, as well as the characters and the memorable world.
We won’t say Breath of the Wild doesn’t do this because in many ways, it actually does. Of course, it’s up to the player. In fact, the whole story aspect is almost non-playable if you really want it to be. As mentioned, you can skip out on everything and test your luck from the very beginning to try and defeat Calamity Ganon. That may work for some players, but we prefer going the old school route and actually progressing through the story.
We feel the sequel should still give players an option as to whether they want to play through it or not. However, if there is going to be a bigger focus on the story this time around, then it needs to be done right. All the story elements in this game can be enjoyable, but they feel more like a secondary option rather than an integral part of the game.
We still want the same amount of freedom while still feeling as if the story matters. The connection to the characters, the world, and so on, is very important and that shouldn’t go unnoticed. We want a reason as to why certain things happen and why, as the player, we’re performing a certain task.
Yes, the main reason is simply stopping Calamity Ganon. But, in this game, with the new threat, we want more details of who he is, how he came to be, and so on. The same can be said between the Link and Zelda dynamic. It’ll be great to know how they feel about every situation in Hyrule, learning about the other characters, and so on. Story does matter and it shouldn’t be an afterthought.
