AEW Fyter Fest preview: Nyla Rose vs. Riho vs. Yuka Sakazaki
By Paul Bradley
It looks like triple threats might be a staple of the AEW women’s division moving forward as three of the fastest-rising AEW stars will be taking each other on at Fyter Fest on June 29.
The AEW women’s division is growing at a rapid pace and the two women’s matches at Double or Nothing showed that in spades. The fatal four-way showed off the future aces of the company well and the Joshi match showcased the type of talent AEW has access to in their partnerships with other companies.
Two women who really endeared themselves to the fans in the Joshi contest were Riho and Yuka Sakazaki.
Riho, the 22-year-old from Gatoh Move, really impressed at Double or Nothing and many named her as the star of the Joshi match. With quite a bit of momentum heading into this next match, Riho will be looking to show off even more of her abilities as well as for her second-straight win in AEW.
Sakazaki, the “Magical Girl,” had quite a lot of hype going into the six-woman Joshi tag match as she was one of the first competitors to be announced for the Double or Nothing pay-per-view. She definitely lived up to the hype and made a boatload of new fans to add to her growing legion of supporters. Sakazaki will be looking to avenge that Double or Nothing loss and get her first win in AEW.
Nyla Rose, one of the main roster members of the AEW women’s division, has quite the chip on her shoulder heading into this contest. Rose was a heavy favorite in her match at Double or Nothing but the last-minute inclusion of Awesome Kong made it so she had to change her game plan and her focus on Kong cost her the match.
Rose showed off her anger and intensity in her pre-match promos and that attitude will only be amplified after her high-profile loss. Sakazaki and Riho will have to focus a lot of their attention on keeping this juggernaut out of the ring.
While this match may not steal the show, it will definitely show the audience how great the collection of women’s wrestlers AEW has amassed is. And with the Women’s Championship being unveiled at All Out on August 31, the winner here could find herself at the front of the line for a chance to be the inaugural titleholder.
