Utah could use a weapon like Daniyel Ngata. Having an all-purpose back that can be a threat both running the ball and catching it is a major advantage for a program that has one.

Ngata has an offer from Utah and the Utes offense could use a player like him. Utah’s roster outlook currently has three senior backs and three sophomore backs. That leads to a trend developing here.

The Utes are clearly going to add a few backs with their 2020 class as they don’t have any freshman all-purpose backs on their roster outlook at the moment.

At 5’9″ and 180 pounds, Ngata isn’t the largest back in the world and might not be the traditional workhorse back. However, if used correctly he should still receive plenty of touches and be an impact player.

The Pac-12 South is as wide open as its ever been. There’s plenty of uncertainty with USC, Chip Kelly has a lot of work to do with UCLA and Arizona State and Arizona are formidable but can be beaten. Colorado’s got a lot of work to do.

The reigning Pac-12 South Champs are in a position where they can stay a step ahead of their competition. Landing an impact all-purpose back would be a huge plus for Kyle Whittingham and his staff.
