Devils just made the Rangers look like a bunch of jabronis
The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils are on a crash course to become the NHL’s best rivalry next season.
The New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers have been making moves this offseason. The Devils and Rangers each drafted a future NHL star in Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko and they each signed a quality big-name offensive defensman in PK Subban and Jacob Trouba.
Both teams are set to improve upon their previous seasons. Now, all that’s left is the trash talk. It’s time to rehash this old rivalry.
The Hudson River is all that separates these two NHL franchises. Both of which were irrelevant in the 2018-19 season, both of which are set to be very interesting to watch in the 2019-20 season. The Devils kicked off what is sure to be a long summer of quality twitter wars with this great little edit.
October 17th! Mark the date in your calendars! The Rangers and Devils will be laying a proverbial people’s elbow on our candy asses after a loooooong summer of debate as to who is the better draft choice.
FINALLY… (relevant) hockey has come BACK to the Tri-State Area! Jabronis are already replying in the hundreds with “Hughes is better” or “Kakko is better,” each with its own set of replies telling the author why his or her original tweet is stupid. It’s peak hockey Twitter and it’s starting a few months earlier than usual. Go at it, New York and New Jersey! Put boots to asses!
As of right now, the Rangers haven’t replied to the tweet. The Devils have the edge in this no-holds-barred steel cage match, especially since all we’ve seen from Kakko so far is a few videos in which he looks as though he’s being held hostage.
He’s focused on winning and nothing else. The 1 vs. 2 draft pick debate will likely go on throughout these two players’ long careers, much like it did with Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. Like those two, Hughes and Kakko both have franchise-changing abilities as well. Hughes is going to be an all-around great player and Kakko is a goal scoring machine.
Hughes is ready for the rivalry. He even addressed it on WFAN sports radio’s Boomer and Gio:
"“Obviously it’s really unique to have the first and second pick in the same area, me with the Devils and him with the Rangers. So I think that’s pretty unique in itself. But for me, I don’t think it’s much of a rivalry, obviously. The media will make it out to be, and I’m sure over the next couple of years, it’ll intensify a little bit with the Devils and Rangers trying to heat up and get really good teams here certainly. That would be a lot of fun if a Devil-Ranger rivalry was kind of heated up again.”"
Good enough for me. We can all smell what the Devils and Rangers have been cooking and we’re excited for the result.
October 17th, 2019 is the first of four meetings between these two in what will surely become a career-long rivalry. Hockey is back in New Jersey and New York (Oh, wait. I guess the Islanders are good… but who cares about the Islanders). We already can’t wait for next season.
