AEW Fyter Fest preview: Cody vs. Darby Allin
By Paul Bradley
One of the most hyped matches of Fyter Fest pits the face of AEW, Cody, against the latest up-and-comer, the dangerous Darby Allin.
This match, announced long before Double or Nothing, has found itself sandwiched between two of Cody’s more marquee matches as he and his brother Dustin Rhodes continue their program.
That being said, though this match has built up well and the story going in is quite interesting.
Cody is not nervous about facing off against the enigmatic Darby Allin, but his friends seem to be nervous for him. This tension adds an interesting dynamic, as it subtly tells the viewer that Allin is someone to be feared.
Allin has stated that he is looking for a place to be accepted for who he is, and he believes that AEW is that place. So if this is Allin’s new place of acceptance, fans can expect him to be himself and not water down his gimmick or move set. This is not good for Cody, as Allin has some dangerous, masochistic moves in his arsenal.
Allin is being very genuine to his current iteration of his character in the buildup but he is also adding new elements, such as his newest tattoo and mantra:
“Relentless”
Keep in mind this is the man who handcuffs himself in matches and uses skateboards with thumbtacks attached to them as weapons, so if he is just now considering himself as “relentless,” then Cody might have more of a reason to fear this man than he thinks.
Cody has a lot of momentum coming into this match after his impressive victory over his brother in what many fans called the match of the night at Double or Nothing. Cody is not one to play fair as well, so fans can expect him to act nefariously if the match starts moving Allin’s way.
Allin versus Cody could definitely steal the show and might get pretty wild. Expect Cody to win this match as he is one of the AEW stars that seems to be getting a big push out of the gate, but don’t be surprised if Allin scrapes by with a win.
