Main DraftKings MLB Picks June 27: SOS! Sold on Strasburg

Only four games make up our main DraftKings MLB tournaments tonight. However, the only aces are on this slate, but where can we come up with some value? Don’t worry, there’s plenty to go around. First, the weather!

Rain: none

Wind: 12 mph in from left in Miami, 14 mph out to center in San Francisco

Hot and humid: Miami

Last night was interesting. Pitching dominated early with Jason Vargas trolling everyone (again) and Minor pitching a complete game (again). Then the offenses woke up. My Cubs/Angels hybrid with Corbin was the best lineup. I hit cash a couple of other times, but not having a Pirates stack cost me any chance at a really strong lineup. Still, any night I can hit 150 a few times, I’m pretty happy with.

These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. We have plenty of writers on here who give you relevant information no matter which site you play on, and we all attack the slate from different angles.

DraftKings MLB Pitcher Plays:

Top Tier:

Stephen Strasburg ($11,900): Unlike one of his teammates, Strasburg has actually dominated the Marlins like he is supposed to. In all fairness, Mad Max did this time around. So did Corbin. This offense is scuffling, and they are only hitting .206 with a homer and four runs in 102 at bats with 36 strikeouts against Strasburg. Find your separation elsewhere. Strasburg is too risky of a fade. Ownership is going to be well over 50%, but don’t worry. I’ll find you a place to separate.

Middle Tier:

Walker Buehler ($8,900): The trip to Coors is going to quash ownership on Buehler, and I’m okay with that. The Rockies are only hitting .175 with six homers and 13 runs in 120 at bats with 35 strikeouts. Buehler’s numbers at Coors really aren’t that bad. He has a 3.81 ERA in 26 career innings there. I’m willing to take the chance here, especially in GPP formats.

Griffin Canning ($8,500): The Angels pushed Canning back, but it’s still a good situation for him. The A’s are only hitting .233 in 43 at bats with 12 strikeouts. They have scored five runs though. Canning made two of his five major league starts against the A’s, coming away with 35.8 DraftKings points. That’s a solid return, but at the price, I think Buehler is a better bargain at just $400 more.

Bargain Pitchers:

Alex Young ($6,300): Young, he of the 5.79 ERA at AAA Reno, will be summoned to pitch against the Giants. The good news is that the Giants are worse than a lot of AAA offenses, and San Francisco is very close to sea level, as opposed to Reno. I can see a lot of potential for Young here. He is logging more than a strikeout per inning, and the Giants are hitting just .217 against southpaws this year. Young has to be better than God(damn)ley, right? RIGHT?

Peter Lambert ($4,700): We need to find value and separation somewhere, right? Unless you are willing to gamble on who comes in in long relief in the Giants-Arizona game, Lambert is the best bet. His horrid start against the Padres has skewed his numbers a bit. In his other three starts, Lambert has allowed five total runs. He allowed three to the Dodgers in L.A. last week, and I expect something near that here. The problem is that Lambert only logged one strikeout, so he finished with 2.5 DraftKings points. Maybe a long relief dart isn’t looking so bad after all……

Can we agree that Beede and Young are the most likely to draw the early hook tonight? Can we also agree that we don’t want to mess with the Colorado bullpen? If so, the long relief options come down to Reyes Moronta for the Giants and Hirano for Arizona. After that, the value is gone because they are more than Lambert, who has a clear path to innings!

My picks: Strasburg, Buehler; Strasburg, Young; Strasburg, Moronta

LOS ANGELES, CA – JUNE 22: Alex Verdugo #27 of the Los Angeles Dodgers watches his 11th inning walk-off home run ball clear the rigt field fence to defeat the Colorado Rockies 5-4 at Dodger Stadium on June 22, 2019 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by John McCoy/Getty Images)

DraftKings MLB early notes:

If Neil Walker happens to be in the lineup, he is the only current Marlin to homer against Strasburg and he has three of the four RBI. Miguel Rojas is one of my favorite money savers. He is a solid 6-19 against Strasburg.

Alcantara looks tempting, doesn’t he? Until you look at what the Nationals have done to him. They are hitting .447 in 38 at bats with two homers and 12 runs already. That’s not a fluke! Rendon and Juan Soto have the homers and are two of my favorite plays on the entire slate. Yan Gomes has only faced Alcantara once. He had a bases clearing double. I also like Adam Eaton on the cheap here. It’s going to be hard to get those bats in there with Strasburg though.

Blackmon has two homers against Walker Buehler already. Mark Reynolds, Iannetta, David Dahl, and Arenado have the others. I wouldn’t play off of these guys. If I can afford Blackmon, I’ll play him. Other than that, the prices are jacked up against a guy that not only has solid numbers at Coors, but that has a 2.14 ERA in his last ten games after a rough start.

Alex Verdugo hit the homer against Lambert last week and is one of my favorite plays from this entire game. That said, I don’t expect a blowup from either pitcher here. It’s most likely to happen to Lambert, but how much are you willing to spend to find out? Everyone, even the “cheap” righties, are well over $4,000.

You know, the Giants’ lefty value of Crawford and Panik is usually a fail safe, but it may not be against a left handed starter. We may have to turn to Tyler Austin or Solano instead. It also makes Kevin Pillar one of the better plays for the price of the night.

I really can’t say anything about Tyler Beede anymore. He keeps getting worse, if that’s at all possible. Ketel Marte is a great play if you want to pay up, but with all of the other great bats out there, we are probably approaching this game looking for value, right? Enter Carson Kelly, Ildemaro Vargas, Nick Ahmed, and David Peralta. There is a lot of potential in this Arizona lineup, and most of them are very affordable.

Do you really want to mess with an average pitcher against the Angels right now? Tanner Anderson has been serviceable thus far for the A’s, but he has also been pretty lucky. He doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts  or throw a lot of strikes for that matter. Pitchers have survived with worse stuff than Anderson, but not against teams like the Angels. All four outfielders/DH are in play here. They hit everything. LaStella batting leadoff and Justin Bour are tempting as well.

Laureano and Marcus Semien have the homers against Canning. Khris Davis is still super cheap as well. He’s not in the midst of one of his hot streaks, but Davis hasn’t tallied a zero in over a week. Not only that, but his price allows us to chase another ace or big bat, whichever you prefer.
