Here’s our five-count rundown from this week’s episode of WWE NXT, keeping you up to date on the latest happenings in the black and yellow brand.

This week’s edition of WWE NXT had a few good highlights, from the first match of the NXT Breakout Tournament to a steel cage match that headlined the show for the NXT Women’s Championship. If you missed the latest from the black and gold brand last night don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

So let’s not waste any more time; this is the NXT 5 Count!

1. The NXT Breakout Tournament kicks off

Last week on NXT it was announced by general manager William Regal that they would be holding an eight-man tournament, dubbed the NXT Breakout Tournament. The tournament features talent that has yet to appear on NXT television, with the winner being awarded an NXT title opportunity of their choosing.

While many names have been changed, there are a lot of familiar faces in this tournament. But we will say that the absence of one Brennan Williams is a head-scratching omission. The man is more than ready at this point to make his NXT television debut. Why he wasn’t included in this tournament is a mystery.

The tournament kicked off NXT Wednesday night with Joaquin Wilde (f/k/a DJZ) going one-on-one with Angel Garza. It was a fantastic way to kick off the tournament, and if this is a sign of what’s to come we should expect great things from these eight men over the coming weeks.

The finish saw Garza pick up the victory on Wilde with a Butterfly Stunner, a unique maneuver you don’t see very often — if ever — on WWE programming. Both men came out of this match looking great and it will be interesting to see what’s next for Wilde now that he’s officially out of the tournament.
