14. The Golden Girls

Members: The Golden Girls theme song isn’t called “Thank You for Being a Friend” for nothing. Dorothy (Bea Arthur), Rose (Betty White), Blanche (RueMcClanahan), and Sophia (Estelle Getty) are four of the best friends you’ll ever see on television — even if they throw sharp jabs at each other over cheesecake. But hey, that’s unconditional love. The series centers on the four older women living together in a shared home in Miami, and we should really be thanking them for being a friend.

Memorable moments: Over the course of seven seasons and 180 episodes, The Golden Girls turned in countless memorable moments. Sure, the fab four could get themselves into some trouble, but you’ll find yourself recalling standout dialogue moments. The series boasted four of the finest comedic actresses ever and some of the wittiest writing in sitcom history. From hurricanes to weddings to health crises, our favorite golden girls get through it all together with each other by their side and a wicked sense of humor.

Running gags: Much like other sitcoms, The Golden Girls featured a number of running gas, and since there were only four main characters throughout the series’ run, they couldn’t escape a good, hilarious callback to their past. But the two biggest identifiers that have stuck with The Golden Girls throughout the years is the core four’s chosen favorite dessert indulgence and their character quirks. Rose wasn’t the brightest of the bunch, Dorothy had a short fuse, Blanche led with confidence, and Sophia had a zinger locked and loaded for everyone.

Key episodes: “The Triangle,” “The Way We Met,” “Ladies of the Evening,” “It’s a Miserable Life,” “Grab That Dough,” “Blind Date,” “Till Death Do We Volley,” “Love Under the Big Top,” “Sisters and Other Strangers,” “Sister of the Bride,” “There Goes the Bride,” “The Case of the Libertine Bell,” “Home Again, Rose.”
