Biggest Trap Game: at Mississippi State (Oct. 19)

After what felt like an eternity of “yeah, buts” regarding the LSU Tigers quarterback position, Joe Burrow transferred from Ohio State to Ed Orgeron’s program and changed the fortunes that the position. No, he wasn’t Tua Tagovailoa, but Burrow provided both consistency and stability at the position, something that the team has lacked for quite some time. Now, after going 10-3 behind Burrow, LSU looks for bigger things in 2019.

With Burrow returning, he could be in line for an even bigger second season at the helm of the Tigers offense. LSU is expected to use more RPO action in their offense, which seems to lend itself to Burrow’s skill-set as a tough runner and quick action passer. Given that and a solid group of skill position players, the offense should actually be a strength for the Tigers.

Of course, LSU’s greatest strength will continue to be their defense and that starts with the secondary. Both safety Grant Delpit and cornerback Kristian Fulton are likely first-round draft picks in 2020 and will set the tone for the Tigers. And while they have to replace Devin White at linebacker, the front seven has plenty of talent to help do just that.

For the biggest trap game, look no further than the Oct. 19 matchup at Mississippi State. Not only is going to Starkville never easy but this game also falls after a date with Florida and ahead of playing Auburn at home and Alabama on the road in the following weeks. If LSU tries to take a breather against the Bulldogs, they could certainly take a loss too.
