6. Ohio State Buckeyes

Biggest Trap Game: at Northwestern (Oct. 18)

While the Ohio State Buckeyes will be transitioning from Urban Meyer to Ryan Day at head coach, there’s little reason to believe that we’ll see too much change in the Buckeyes. Not only has Day proven himself as a creative and effective offensive mind in college football, but he also has a strong, veteran staff surrounding him to help ease his move into being the head coach in Columbus.

That being said, there is more transition to note for the Buckeyes, most notably at quarterback. After one year with Dwayne Haskins — a record-setting year at that — as the starter, Ohio State now has Justin Fields ready to take the reins of the offense. After one year at Georgia ultimately sitting behind Jake Fromm, the former 5-star recruit transferred to the Buckeyes and now seems primed to unleash a lethal dual-threat attack from the position.

Around Fields on both sides of the ball is a plethora of talent at Day’s disposal. On offense, he will have the likes of running back J.K. Dobbins and wide receiver K.J. Hill helping him to move the ball down the field. As for the defense, defensive end Chase Young looks the part of a star, as does Jeffrey Okudah in the secondary.

The biggest trap game is another that comes against a ranked opponent, but it’s how the schedule truly shakes out for Ohio State. Regardless, going on the road against Northwestern falls at a tough time, after playing at Nebraska and at home vs. Michigan State and ahead of a showdown against Wisconsin. Thus, it’s a possible upset that the Buckeyes must look to avoid.
