Every NBA team’s all-time starting lineup
Atlanta Hawks
PG – Trae Young
Young is just five years into his NBA career but he’s already established himself as the greatest point guard in franchise history. He’s already into the top-10 in franchise history in points, assists, 3-point field goals and free throws. And he’s just getting started.
SG – Steve Smith
Steve Smith, creator of the half-spin move — colloquially known as “The Smitty” — was an all-around impressive player during his NBA career. His real stand-out time came as a member of the Atlanta Hawks. Smith brought it on offense and defense and he helped to make the Hawks a formidable team during the 1990s.
SF – Dominique Wilkins
Dominique Wilkins will forever be synonymous with two things — windmill dunks and the Atlanta Hawks. The Human Highlight Film used his spectacular powerful and forceful slam dunks to become a staple of the Atlanta Hawks. Wilkins’ Hawks teams of the 1980s — featuring the OG “Pacman logo” — helped make the franchise one that constantly held their own when they squared off with dynastic teams like Larry Bird’s Boston Celtics and Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls. No all-time Hawks team is complete without Wilkins being a part of it.
PF – Al Horford
Al Horford has been underrated for the vast majority of his NBA career. Overlooked for players with more gaudy numbers, Horford has been nothing less than solid in any season. When the Atlanta Hawks surprised the NBA and won 60 games in 2015, it was Horford’s versatility and talent that helped to lead the way. That group is often remembered as the team with no stars but that is a big disservice to what Horford brought to the floor.
C – Bob Pettit
Bob Pettit won the first-ever NBA Most Valuable Player award in 1956 and he and Kobe Bryant are tied for the most All-Star game MVPs (four) in NBA history. Pettit was a star player for the Hawks when they were located in Milwaukee and St. Louis and even as the team went to Atlanta, Petit’s presence in the franchise has not been forgotten.
