Fantasy Baseball 2019 June 28 Pitching Streamers
By Bill Pivetz
The pitching streamers for June 28 have quantity but there’s not a lot of quality, making finding the right ones for your fantasy baseball team even more crucial.
While the Yankees and Red Sox prepare for their two-game London series, the other 28 teams have games to play on Friday. The slate of games features a couple of one-sided pitching matchups and others have a couple of dart throws on the mound. Finding the middle ground is where fantasy baseball experts rise to the occasion.
The aces include Jacob deGrom, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Jose Berrios and two of the three have very favorable matchups. But, there not the only ones with favorable matchups. I have provided you with four starting pitchers that could come out with a win or quality start. The better part is that they are widely available for fantasy owners.
There is a reason or two while these pitchers are available on the waiver wire but for this start, they are worth the risk. You don’t need to keep them after this start so don’t worry about looking ahead on the schedule.
So, here are the four starting pitchers I picked out as my streamers for the day. All four pitchers are owned in less than 40 percent of ESPN leagues as of this writing.

Merrill Kelly, @SF
After his recent stretch of games, I’m surprised that Kelly still makes the cut. Despite a bad start against Colorado on June 18, he’s had a quality start in four of the last five starts. Kelly has a 2.36 ERA, 0.815 WHIP, 32:4 K:BB ratio and a 3-1 record.
The Diamondbacks rookie has been on my waiver wire lists in the past and with his upcoming start against the Giants, he should be added in a lot of leagues.
The Giants are hitting .234 with 98 runs scored this month, both stats have them in the bottom seven of the league. Kelly is a big strikeout pitcher, so he should be able to keep his ratios low and walk out with another win and quality start.
Anibal Sanchez, @DET
After a rough first six weeks to the season, the veteran has looked great for the Nationals. Over his last five starts, Sanchez owns a 2.45 ERA, .852 WHIP, 24:4 K:BB ratio and a 3-0 record with three quality starts.
He faces the lowly Tigers offense. They have a .237 average with just 72 runs scored this month. Comerica Park is a middle-of-the-road park according to ESPN Park Factors. With the Tigers offense, Sanchez shouldn’t have a problem keeping the ball in the park.
I think he’s earned a roster spot in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.
Michael Wacha, @SD
Wacha has had a couple of good starts over the last three weeks. He has two quality starts bookending a bad four-inning start against the Mets. His 5.59 ERA is not something fantasy owners want to risk but that is due to a bad May. Wacha has a 2.95 ERA this month.
Wacha makes his next start on the road against the Padres. San Diego has a .264 average with 37 home runs this month. Manny Machado and Franmil Reyes are both crushing the ball in recent games.
Wacha is giving up more fly balls this season than ever before with a 22.6 HR/FB rate. He’s my “if you’re desperate” pick but I could see a scenerio where Wacha comes away with a win.
Shaun Anderson, vs. ARI
Opposing Kelly and the Diamondbacks is another rookie in Anderson. While he isn’t pitching as deep into games as Kelly, he’s recorded four quality starts in five games this month. He has a 3.52 ERA and 17:11 K:BB ratio in that span.
The Diamondbacks have a .248 average with 120 runs scored and 186 strikeouts in 24 June games. Thought All-Star Ketel Marte may have another multi-hit game, hurting Anderson’s WHIP.
The Giants pitchers collectively have a 5.29 ERA, 26th in the league. Anderson, however, has done his best to lower that number.
The streaming options are not as deep as other weeks but there are a couple of options if you’re feeling risky. Then again, you can’t be in the streaming market if you’re not willing to take a risk. Good luck and hopefully one of these options pay off for you.
