Jacksonville Jaguars: Week 2 at Houston Texans

The good times have been few and far between for the Jacksonville Jaguars the last decade or so. Yes, Doug Marrone’s squad Doug Moran’s club won the AFC South in 2017 and came within one victory of the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance. But the team couldn’t stop New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady in the fourth quarter in the AFC title clash.

Fast forward to 2018, when the team not only managed to avenge that conference championship game loss to the patriots but got off to a 3-1 start. But it quickly fell apart for a team that had its issues offensively and didn’t get the kind of big plays from their defensive unit as was the case one year earlier.

A Week 2 clash at Houston with the defending AFC South champions could give us a good idea in terms of seeing how many strides Marrone’s team has made this offseason. A year ago, the Texans swept Jacksonville and their defense completely stifled the Jaguars’ attack in both contests – limiting them to a combined 10 points in two outings. You may recall that in 2017, Marrone’s squad manhandled Houston twice (by a combined score of 74-14).

In any case, the Jaguars have dropped eight of their last 10 games vs. this AFC South rival. If Marrone’s team is to bounce back in 2019, an early win at Houston could wind up being a springboard.
