Fantasy Baseball 2019 Week 14 Waiver Wire Picks
By Bill Pivetz
This week’s waiver wire list features hitters on hot streaks and a couple of solid starting pitchers that should be added to your fantasy baseball team.
We are more than halfway through the fantasy baseball season. This is a crucial point in the season to determine if you are a playoff contender or looking to rebuild for next season. In redraft fantasy baseball leagues, that decision likely comes earlier in the season.
If you are in the hunt, then managing your roster is important for the playoff push. The waiver wire is full of players that could help you for a week or two at a time. With players constantly going on the IL, finding solid replacements is key to continued success.
This week’s waiver wire list features three hitters, two starting pitchers and a relief pitcher. There’s enough here that you should be able to find at least one player you can use for a bit. All six players are owned in less than 45 percent of leagues. Five of the six are owned in less than 25 percent.

Chris Taylor
The Dodgers do a good job getting more than their starting eight consistent at-bats. While he hasn’t started every game, Taylor’s racked up 256 plate appearances in 80 games. He has second base, shortstop and outfield eligibility in most fantasy leagues.
Over the last week, Taylor has a .481 average with a home run, five doubles and eight RBI. While he may not play every day, he’s productive enough that he’s worth a roster spot as a utility starter or bench option.
Oscar Mercado
Mercado continues to hit at the major league level. He has a .300 average over the last week with two doubles and four RBI. Before going 0-for-4, Mercado was on a six-game hitting streak.
Mercado is planted at the Indians No. 2 hitter, sandwiched by Francisco Lindor and Carlos Santana. Once they start hitting, that will be a dangerous top three for pitchers to start a game against. Though, the lack of major offensive production is what’s holding down Mercado’s fantasy value.
J.P. Crawford
The shortstop is getting another chance with Seattle. After missing the first 15 days of the month, Crawford is hitting well to end June. He has a .362 average with one home run, five doubles, two triples, 16 RBI and nine runs. He also has a steal.
Crawford is also hitting second, between Mallex Smith and Domingo Santana. I like players who hit towards the top of the order, more at-bats usually results in more hits, runs and RBIs. Smith has a .341 OBP this month, so they tends to be someone on base for Crawford.
Elieser Hernandez
The Marlins continue to develop good starting pitchers. This time, I include Hernandez. While his ERA is a bit higher than his teammates, he’s still pitching wellm enough to earn a win. Hernandez has a 3.63 ERA, 26:5 K:BB ratio and a 1-2 record in 22.1 innings.
Hernandez will make his next start on July 4 against the Nationals. While that may not be the best matchup, the Nationals offense is hitting .259 this month. If you need strikeouts with the potential for a win, Hernandez is your guy.
Logan Allen
If you’re looking for a pitcher that can eat innings, Allen is that pitcher. He’s made two starts so far and went seven and six innings. He has a 1.38 ERA, 1.154 WHIP, 10:4 K:BB and 2-0 record.
Allen’s recorded two walks and five strikeouts in both starts. He faced Milwaukee and Baltimore in his first two games. He makes his next start against the Giants on July 1. That is a great matchup for him to earn his third win and quality start.
Anthony Swarzak
Swarzak has been nearly perfect since joining the Braves. In 17.1 innings in Atlanta, he has a 0.52 ERA, 0.808 WHIP, 21:6 K:BB ratio, 10 holds and a save. If you use holds as a pitching category, he is a must add. If you don’t Swarzak is still someone to monitor.
Braves current closer Luke Jackson has a 2.77 ERA, 19 strikeouts, four walks and five saves in seven chances.
The waiver wire is a temporary fix for bigger issues to your fantasy baseball team. There are players that could lead to great success but the majority are short-term solutions that will likely be dropped after a couple of weeks.
