J.J. Redick is taking his talents to the bayou, joining the New Orleans Pelicans as they continue to ascend to a new level.

In the summer of Durant, Kawhi, and Jimmy Buckets, one of the most important signings may nd up being J.J. Redick.

The now-former Sixers veteran will be playing basketball in New Orleans for the next two years and the move should have basketball aficionados swooning. Pelicans fans should be pretty stoked as well.

Redick joins the Pelicans as they continue to surgically reconstruct the entire organization. From a new general manager to a new young face of the franchise, everything about the Pelicans is going to look and feel different in 2019.

His two-year contract will come off the books in 2021, which is shaping up to be another big summer of free agency. This puts the Pelicans on track to be contenders as they grow with Zion Williamson and Lonzo Ball, and become an attractive destination for a big free agent in a few years.

Everything about this is a credit to David Griffin, who was hired to do exactly what he appears to be doing — fixing the Pels. He traded Anthony Davis for a war chest of assets, drafted Zion Williamson (not that he had anything to do with it but he didn’t screw it up), and has now added the veteran Redick to help guide his young core.

The biggest winner out of this is League Pass. New Orleans was already shaping up to be must-watch fun this upcoming season, but adding Redick means they’re even deeper levels League Pass approved.
