If you have a problem with Alex Morgan’s tea celebration, you’re the problem
Alex Morgan’s goal celebration against England unleashed a torrent of criticism from those who just can’t appreciate her genius.
USWNT star Alex Morgan sure knows how to score goals — and her celebrations are fun, too.
Not everyone thinks so.
After scoring what turned out to be the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win against England on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Women’s World Cup, Morgan celebrated with her teammates by taking an imaginary sip of tea.
Yes, the English drink tea. And yes, the United States won its independence from Britain (the Fourth of July is just two days away), in part, by dumping tea into Boston Harbor to protest taxation without representation.
The Founding Fathers would have been proud of Morgan’s defiant, and let’s face it funny, celebration in Lyon after scoring in the 31st minute.
The hysteria that followed on Twitter and by TV analysts overshadowed what turned out to be an epic game. Like in the 13-0 rout of Thailand in their first game, the Americans were maligned for being cocky.
Others were left with a bad taste in their mouth.

It was, after all, Morgan’s 30th birthday and what better way than to celebrate with a historic goal that allowed the Americans to advance to Sunday’s final and record their 11th straight World Cup win dating back to 2015.
The overblown hysteria over the tea-sipping raged during the game and in the hours that followed.
It made the goal, and the USWNT’s win, big news.

The U.S. next plays the winner of Netherlands-Sweden on Sunday in Lyon for the chance at a fourth World Cup title.
