MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Cash Game Ace

Jacob DeGrom (10.7k FD, 11.3k DK) vs. Philadelphia

Surprise, it’s DeGrom (maybe the title of the article gave it away?) DeGOAT (as some of our Mets fans who work here at FanSided Fantasy call him) is the biggest favorite on the slate and is facing a divisional rival Phillies at home tonight. He has a positive park factor in his favor and a very solid history against this team at home.

In 7 home starts against the Phils, DeGrom owns a 4-1 record with an ERA of 1.99 and 47 strikeouts over 45 innings. DeGrom has been excellent this season, carrying a 30% strikeout rate and only a 5% walk rate. He’s been particularly effectively lately, earning a quality start in six consecutive games and striking out 7 or more batters in each of those outings. That’s a tremendous floor for cash games as his lowest scores during that span were 34 FD points and 16.7 DK points.

I’ll take DeGrom over Verlander tonight, save a few hundred bucks in salary and target a National league team without a DH that strikes out a good bit more (22%) compared to the Angels, who have the lowest strikeout rate (18%) of any team in the majors. I always prefer a groundball pitcher (DeGrom) to a fly ball pitcher like Verlander, too.
