10 candidates to be on the cover of NCAA Football from 2014-present
1. Baker Mayfield
One of the most fun collegiate players since Johnny Manziel, Baker Mayfield is the No. 1 athlete deserving of an NCAA Football video game cover.
Baker’s antics, playing style and success all gelled together to make the ultimate cover athlete. He is the type of player that gamers not only want to play as but also play against. Similar to when Tim Tebow graced the cover back in NCAA Football 11, the personality of Mayfield is one that developers could not pass up.
From planting a flag in the middle of the field to gesturing towards fans in the crowd and not being afraid to speak his mind, Mayfield was simply an incredibly fun collegiate player to watch. Throughout all the antics and behaviors of Mayfield, the stats backed up his play.
In his final two years under Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley, Mayfield tossed 83 touchdowns and nine interceptions as a Sooner. Mayfield also added 11 touchdowns to go along with his incredible offensive stat line.
It is extremely disappointing that players never were able to play as the young Baker Mayfield. As much attention as he draws and as strong as the dividing line between love or hate is, critics will even admit the passion and ability is one-of-a-kind. At least gamers can update the rosters to try and feel what that kind of player would have felt like.
