7. Cristiane, Brazil vs. Jamaica
Cristiane had a strong World Cup and, along with Debinha, was her country’s best player in this year’s tournament. Her goal-scoring prowess was on full display in Brazil’s first game against Jamaica, as she scored a hat-trick while also becoming the ninth player in history to score 10 career World Cup goals.
Her third goal in that game was the best of the bunch. Set up on the edge of the box, Cristiane drove this free kick at the keeper’s near post, smacking the ball perfectly off the crossbar and into the net. Cristiane is one of the most brilliant forwards of this generation, and her accuracy and ability to identify the keeper’s positioning helped make this the best direct free kick of the tournament.

6. Lucy Bronze, England vs. Norway
With a note to Caroline Graham Hansen’s injury, England put on one of the most dominant displays of the tournament in their quarterfinal victory over Norway. They were sublime, wiping Norway off the pitch with an emphatic 3-0 victory. The exclamation point punctuating this easy win? Lucy Bronze’s excellent first-time effort from a set piece.
England had some of the best-executed set pieces in the World Cup, and this was no exception. Beth Mead played a simple pass to Lucy Bronze at the top of the box, and the star right back only needed one touch. With her perfect technique, Bronze struck the ball smoothly, allowing the pace on the ball to provide the venom on the shot. The ball flew down the middle and into the back of the net at breakneck speed, and it was one of the most satisfying strikes of 2019.
