When Megan Rapinoe speaks we should all listen, Stranger Things 3 love and no, Robert Redford is not Zach Galifinaikis
The USWNT gets their parade and it’s awesome, Megan Rapinoe speaks and we should all listen and no, Robert Redford is not Zach Galifinaikis you nerds.
USWNT parade: Megan Rapinoe speaks, we should all listen
Championship parades are awesome and the USWNT parade after winning their second straight World Cup was just that. They are fun. They love each other. They support each other. They have each other’s back. They speak out for those who don’t have a voice. They represent what makes America great.
I found it pretty ridiculous and childish that there are people who hate this team because Megan Rapinoe had the audacity to say she didn’t want to go to the White House. Hardly an unpopular opinion over the last couple of years. But there are people who say they love America so much that they rooted against the USWNT team. Kind of a bogus thought process, right? That’s the state of the union for ya.
Rapinoe spoke at the parade and everyone should listen to her message. If you don’t like the messenger, fine, I’m not going to change your mind, but if you have a problem with the message, you are the problem.
"“This is my charge to everyone: We have to be better. We have to love more. Hate less. We got to listen more and talk less. It’s our responsibility to make the world a better place.”"
I wish there was another World Cup next month because I already miss these incredible women, role models, athletes, advocates, inspirations and every other superlative you can think of.
Now pay them what they deserve you cowards!
Stranger Things 3
Don’t worry, no spoilers here!
Did you spend the entirety of your Fourth of July on your couch binge-watching Stranger Things 3? Well, that’s exactly what I did and I have zero regrets about it. After a 20-month wait for eight new episodes of the best show on Netflix, it was well worth the wait, and now the wait is on for season 4. There’s a certain energy about this show that nothing else on TV can match. I feel like I took a ride in Marty McFly’s DeLorean and was in 1985. There’s a chance season 4 will be the show’s last, but I’m not ready to leave Hawkins yet.
The next binge-watch?
With Stranger Things wrapped up in a day, I’m in need of a new show to binge. I recently caught up on six seasons of Ray Donovan and loved it. The Showtime series had been on my watchlist for years, but I never wanted to pay for Showtime on top of the 11 other streaming services and cable I already have. But I took advantage of a free 30-day trial (call me cheap if you want, but I am a smart consumer) and binged all 72 episodes in less than two weeks. The Donovan family is so screwed up and I absolutely love it, especially the relationships between brothers Terry, Ray and Bunchy. If you’re looking for a great drama, check it out.
I think my next binge will be another show from this decade that I have wanted to watch for years but for whatever reason never committed to it. It’s time to watch Justified and see if all my friends who have recommended it for the last nine years were right. It’s another six-season drama I’ll have to squeeze in before Orange is the New Black returns for its final season on Netflix on July 26.
Are you nuts? Robert Redford is not Zach Galifinaikis
In the latest chapter of me being mad online, I direct my outrage at the people who thought the popular nodding meme of Robert Redford from Jeremiah Johnson was Zach Galifinaikis.
Turns out there are a lot of people out there who think every guy with a beard it Galifinaikis and were certifiably shooketh to their core to learn how wrong they were that Twitter made a whole damn moment about it and it was trending basically all of Tuesday and Wednesday.
I’m getting mad all over again just typing this out and seeing these responses.

I was young once. Young people think they know everything. They’re the smartest people around and they’ll love to tell you about that. But I feel no shame in shaming the youths or the olds for this grievous mistake.
I mean, who can forget the legendary performances by Zach Galifinaikis in The Natural, The Sting, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid or All the President’s Men?!
Okay, even if you haven’t seen those classics (which is bad), Redford was in Avengers: Endgame, Captain America: Winter Soldier — two of the most-watched movies of all-time — in the last five years.
So what’s your excuse, world?!
Also, just in case you didn’t know, the guy in the Crying Jordan meme is Michael Jordan.
Okay, that feels good to get out of my system. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I can go about my life now.
Summer vacation
The Schmidt List is going on vacation next week so you’ll all have to miss me for one week until I return to regularly scheduled programming the week of July 22. I haven’t had a real vacation in more than a decade. I’ve had time off work, sure, but I haven’t really had a vacation. That will change this weekend and I can’t wait.
I will not reveal the destination because the paparazzi is crazy and I’m trying to keep a low profile, but there will be a cabin in the middle of an undisclosed location, a large body of water and a lot of food and beverages to sustain me for nine days.
