Iowa football put together another solid season in 2018, winning nine games. But what’s in store for 2019? Can the Hawkeyes make a run in the Big Ten West?

The 2019 season will mark the 21st season for Kirk Ferentz as head coach of the Hawkeyes and fresh off a nine-win campaign, this year has the feeling of another typical Iowa football season.

In 2018, Iowa won nine games and capped the season with the eighth bowl victory under Ferentz after beating Mississippi State 27-22 in the Outback Bowl. However, that win over the Bulldogs was the only victory over a ranked opponent and with a favorable schedule, the fact that Iowa didn’t end up in the Big Ten championship game was a disappointment.

Despite finishing three games behind Northwestern, a close home loss to the Wildcats, plus tough losses to Purdue, Penn State and Wisconsin doomed Iowa’s hopes.

The good news for Iowa football is that Nathan Stanley will be back at quarterback after throwing for more than 2,400 yards and 26 touchdowns in the last two seasons.

The Hawkeyes had two tight ends, T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant get drafted in the first round of the NFL draft in addition to losing top wideout Nick Easley. Incoming transfer Oliver Martin, who is coming over from Michigan, if able to play right away, would help. But the veteran experience of Stanley, as well as 10 returning starters is also a good starting off point.

So with that in mind, here are game-by-game predictions for the Hawkeyes in 2019.
