MLB Trade Rumors: 5 teams who should trade for Madison Bumgarner
2. Minnesota Twins
With the second-best record in the American League, the Minnesota Twins have been the biggest surprise in baseball this season. After a solid month of April, the Twinkies proved they were real with a 21-8 month of May and have not cooled much in June or July. Sure, Minnesota is capitalizing on a very weak AL Central, but overlook them at your own risk. The Twins feature a well-rounded, complete lineup and a rotation led by budding ace Jose Berrios.
Despite their strong grasp on the AL Central, the Twins should be expected to act aggressively on the trade market at the deadline. Minnesota has ample prospects with which to make deals, but may not want to cash in any of their biggest chips like Royce Lewis or Alex Kirilloff for a premier young arm like Noah Syndergaard, Matt Boyd or Marcus Stroman.
Lewis and Kirilloff are likely off limits for the Twins in trade talks, but they have three additional MLB top-100 prospects in their farm system. A top-100 prospect for a rental like Bumgarner is likely the best San Francisco will be able to do unless they try and package him with closer Will Smith.
The Twins do have a fairly strong grasp on a playoff spot, but no one in their rotation has much postseason experience. Bumgarner would represent a huge upgrade over any of Kyle Gibson, Martin Perez or Michael Pineda. There should be a major impetus on Twins management to capitalize on this breakout season in a way they did not following their surprise run to the Wild Card in 2017.
