WWE Superstar Mickie James has undergone successful knee surgery as confirmed by her husband Nick Aldis via Twitter.

Mickie James may be tearing it up on the country music scene lately, having just opened for Big and Rich on tour, but she also tore up her knee last month at a WWE live event in Waco, TX. During a match with Carmella it appeared James suffered a knee injury as the match was abruptly stopped. James later confirmed that an MRI revealed she’d torn her ACL and it would require surgery.

On the morning of July 16, James underwent surgery to repair her right ACL at the Andrew Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama a facility known for operating on many superstar injuries in the past. As an impressive side note: this is the first major surgery of James’ 20-year career. According to James’ husband, NWA Champion Nick Aldis, the surgery was a success.

She’s expected to be out of action for up to nine months which lines her up with a WrestleMania 36 return. But James, who hasn’t been used on WWE TV for several months since the Superstar Shake-Up, has left an in ring return up-in-the-air as she tweeted “Thank you all for your love, prayers, and well wishes. I am grateful! I’ll be just fine… if I come back… I’m coming back bionic!”

James made her official return to WWE after an impressive match against Asuka at the NXT TakeOver: Toronto event on November 19, 2016. On December 17, 2018 James made history during an episode of Monday Night Raw by competing in the most matches by a female Superstar in the show’s 25-year history with, 164 total combined matches by this point.

If and when James is able to return it will be interesting to see where she fits into the women’s division especially now that Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman have been named as Executive Directors of SmackDown Live and Raw. Having James return could shake-up a women’s division that’s grown a little stale. Plus, her veteran status is a plus to have as a locker room leader. We wish her a speedy recovery.
