The 2019 British Open is ready to tee off from Royal Portrush and these bold predictions coming true would make for a wild Open Championship.

One year ago, the British Open delivered perhaps the best golf tournament of last season and perhaps one of the most exciting major championships in recent memory — at least until Tiger Woods went to Augusta in 2019. Now, as The Open Championship heads to Royal Portrush with another field of golfers vying for the Claret Jug, there feels like an inordinate amount of excitement to get swept up in.

Perhaps the biggest story to follow is simply the 2019 British Open being played at Royal Portrush. First and foremost, this is the first time that The Open has been to Northern Ireland and this course since 1951, which is surely noteworthy. Beyond that, this is also a course that Graeme McDowell calls home and where Rory McIlroy holds the course record as they both hail from the area.

The talking points don’t nearly stop there, however. There’s always Woods’ quest for more major championships hanging over the golf world at this point, so everyone will be watching for him to make a run at his fourth British Open win. On top of that, another dominant force in Brooks Koepka comes in looking to continue an unreal run in majors to this point — and not giving anyone any kind of help.

If that weren’t enough, we’re coming off of Francesco Molinari’s historic win at The Open Championship last year where he became the first Italian major winner. He’ll be back in the field and looking to repeat his victory but fans will also be looking for more history to be made at a tournament of this magnitude.

Given everything that’s going on heading into this final major of the 2019 season, there’s plenty of reason to believe we could again be seeing one of the most exciting tournaments of the year. With that, let’s call our shot with some of the excitement, making five bold predictions for the 2019 British Open at Royal Portrush, starting with Rickie Fowler.
