FanDuel MLB daily lineups July 17th: Early only & main slate
By Matt Rogers
After a massive single Main slate for FanDuel MLB on Tuesday night, we follow that up with a view of the split Early Only & Mains slates for Wednesday, July 17th.
Yesterday’s FanDuel MLB daily lineup picks did well. For pitching, we could’ve done better. Jordan Yamamoto‘s 27 points as a result of a win over the Padres, in Miami, giving up only two earned runs in five innings was a solid result. Yamamoto had four K’s, but his 99 pitches in five innings limited his outing and he avoided the coveted quality start (QS) points.
The surprise best play of the night was Glenn Sparkman! Give credit to Brian Tulloch, our Picks & Pivots writer for calling Sparkman a great play for the night. For FanDuel, Sparkman was only $5,700 yet he earned 61 points in his win over the White Sox. Peg a ping in Sparkman for now, he could be handy later.
Mike Moustakas ($3,900) was a solid play at utility, at least in our example lineup. But if you were able to afford Christian Yelich ($4,900) or took a chance on Bryce Harper ($3,500), you were rewarded with over 40 FanDuel MLB points with each play. However, Yelich didn’t work in my lineup and I frankly think Harper was a high-risk play.
Fortunately, both our stacks worked, depending on who you picked. Our Oscar Mercado ($2,700) play was one of the best values of the night, slapping a home run with two walks and a stolen base for over 34 FanDuel MLB points.
In all, the Indians and Giants both piled up eight total runs each. Alex Dickerson ($3,900) was also worth the salary in the outfield. One name we didn’t call out, from the Giants, was Yastrzemski, who piled up 37.9 FanDuel MLB points on a fairly cheap $3.1K salary in Coors Field.
Looking toward Wednesday, we have a different set up. We’re going to start by investigating the lineup possibilities within the four-game 1:10pm ET Early Only FanDuel MLB slate. Then, we’ll take a look at the meaty Main slate, starting after 7:05pm ET.
We’ll get there, but before we do, keep in mind this is an informative post. Don’t use these example lineups as the only best option you have tonight. I’m highlighting the best plays we see for this slate, and it’s up to you to piece together the best final optimal MLB DFS lineup.

Weather Note: Like yesterday, we start the day with mild chances for Rain and Thunderstorms in the eastern part of the country. It’s very hot and muggy across most of the U.S., and this often leads to afternoon and/or evening thunderstorms in random locations.
However, I believe there are greater chances for disruption this evening. The games in Baltimore and New York, impacting the Nationals, Orioles, Yankees, and Rays, all have fairly decent risk of either delaying or postponing, depending on how active this current system moving over the east will become.
The Phillies, Dodgers, Blue Jays, and Red Sox are also risky in Philadelphia and Boston. That is a lot of great offensive stacking possibilities, but we need to be ready to flip to other possibilities if those areas become very weather-active on Wednesday night.
With weather-related considerations addressed, let’s get to the top pitching options…
