MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Cheap Arm/SP2

Dakota Hudson (8k FD, 5.8k DK) @ Cincinnatti

Hudson has shaken off some early-season struggles and pitched really well lately for the Cards. He’s allowed three runs or fewer in all but one of his 16 starts this season. While he’s not been a great strikeout pitcher (only a 17% K rate), he has been an elite groundball pitcher, specifically against righties with a 69% groundball rate.

That groundball rate gives me some confidence to use him in a hitters’ park like Great American ballpark, coupled with the fact that he will see 5-6 righties in the Reds lineup. Hudson’s splits against lefties are bad, but he has been really good against righties all season and he’s fixed his home run problem to an extent.

He might be a tad overpriced on FanDuel, but his DK price is ridiculously low and makes him an easy pick for me as my cash game SP2 and probably my top GPP play of the bargain pitchers, too. The Reds have been struggling offensively lately and I think Hudson can make value on his price in this matchup.
