FanDuel MLB DFS Breakdown – 7/22: Nationals Ready to Rake
By Joe Metz
FanDuel MLB – Top Catchers / First Basemen
Top Play: Edwin Encarnacion | NYY | $4,200
While Martin Perez has been serviceable for the Twins (4.11 xFIP, 21% strikeout rate, 50.7% GB rate), an offense with the firepower like the Yankees have should still spell absolute disaster.
Encarnacion, in particular, has brutalized lefties throughout his career, but especially this season. He’s posted a 0.382 wOBA and a 0.349 ISO against LHP while walking more than he’s struck out. On top of that, he’s done a great job elevating the baseball (55.9% FB rate).
I don’t expect to get up here in cash since I’ll be prioritizing pitching, but if you have the salary, he’s worth every penny.
Value Play: Matt Adams | WAS | $2,700
Adams is looking like a lock in cash games assuming he’s active against a righty, as he’s posted a 0.275 ISO and a 43.2% hard-contact rate against righties this season.
On top of that, Peter Lambert has gotten absolutely crushed by lefties this season to the tune of a 0.416 wOBA and a 0.353 ISO while only striking out 17.8% of LHH. His 46.4% hard-contact rate allowed to lefties also increases the already massive upside that Adams brings to the table for his price.
Honorable Mention(s): Gary Sanchez, Daniel Vogelbach, Luke Voit, Garrett Cooper
