Ranking the 50 most visually-appealing college football uniforms
By Zach Bigalke
When you have a tradition as deep as the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, there is no need to get too garish with your uniforms. Decades of history are destined to create an iconic look that needs no accouterment to embellish it to acceptability. Army, though, has embraced the alternate fad while still honoring their classic Black Knights look.
At the heart of the look is the black that makes Army the Black Knights. Along with accents of gold and gray, the teams at West Point are as impeccably dressed as one might expect from a military operation. Black jerseys and gold pants are the classic look, with white and gold or all-white efforts on the road most weekends.
Where Army vaults itself up into the 50 best dressers in college football is in their alternate looks. The annual Army-Navy Game has spawned some stunning visual efforts in partnership with Nike. Drawing inspiration from both cadets’ future Army division assignments and tributes to historical units, the helmets especially have been tasteful additions to the traditional colors.
While the individuals who suit up for the Black Knights will invariably be going pro in something other than football, they can at least boast the honor of being one of the most spectacularly attired units in college football for their last years on the gridiron.
