The appropriation of Native American imagery by teams has been a powder keg in recent years across all sports in the United States. What separates Florida State from other programs dealing with the fallout from this appropriation, though, is the enthusiastic support of the Seminole tribe for the university’s use of these designs in their uniforms.

Given the close relationship between the tribe and the university, it makes it much easier to appreciate the Florida State aesthetic in all its glory. The feathered spear on the side of the helmets is one of those college football logos that lodge instantly in the memory, accenting the garnet and gold uniforms worn by the Seminoles.

Whether wearing white, red, or black jerseys, the Seminoles have a distinctive pattern that features on the shoulders of every version. They have incorporated both white and gold pants into the wardrobe that provide plenty of options in which to take the field.

In last year’s Boston College matchup, the Seminoles also introduced a new look that proved unique. Rocking black jerseys, Florida State followed the blackout trend that is becoming common across college football. It was a unique twist adding garnet pants and a black-and-garnet helmet to the equation.
