Georgia wasn’t the first to sport a stylized G on the side of their helmets — that honor goes to the NFL’s Green Bay Packers, who introduced the helmet logo in the 1961 season. But they were the first to appropriate the look in college football, and the iconic look has been a staple of Bulldogs uniforms since 1963.

Paired with the school’s red and black color scheme, the G logo has become an instant head-turner. With the team’s various uniform iterations, the one aspect that continually ties it all together is that simple symbol of the school and the state. Usually, the lid is red, with the G in white and black on each side.

The Bulldogs have also played with some alternate looks in recent years, including a silver helmet with red center stripe. Coupled with a wardrobe that includes jerseys and pants in silver, black, red, and white, Georgia can bring a range of combinations to the field that all pair well with either the traditional helmet or the alternates created for the occasion.

In a conference that is a fount of tradition, Georgia stands out for their willingness to switch things up while still remaining true to their roots. That is a big part of what makes them one of the top 50 dressers in the game as we enter year 150 of college football.
