Ranking the 50 most visually-appealing college football uniforms

Southern Methodist is best remembered for its brash defiance of NCAA rules in the early 1980s, culminating in the only death penalty ever handed out to a football program. While those days are far in the rearview mirror, the Mustangs continue to drape themselves in the same basic uniform design that defined the Pony Express era in Dallas.
The color scheme is quintessentially American, with the Mustangs decking themselves out in red, white, and blue on Saturdays. In recent years they also diversified the options in their closet with anthracite gray regularly making an appearance and black also integrated into the selections on offer.
Under Sonny Dykes, SMU has returned to a more classic look. Keeping things simple, they mix and match a variety of red, blue, and white jerseys with white pants. They have also returned to wearing the distinctive red mustang on the side of their white helmets, striking a pose that looked as stylish on Eric Dickerson and company as it does on the newest iterations of the SMU roster.
As one of college football’s best-dressed teams, SMU puts most of their Group of Five brethren to shame in the sartorial department. No alternatives are necessary when you have such a dialed-in style at your disposal.
