Marshall is a team that has looked dapper no matter what level they have played at or which conference they have called home. The Thundering Herd have made their way from I-AA powerhouse to MAC hegemon to Conference USA contender, and all the while they have looked stylish along the way.

The beauty of Marshall’s uniforms begins with the school colors, kelly green and white, which are accented with a healthy dose of black. While most of Marshall’s uniform combinations center on some mix of green or white pants and green or white jerseys, the above image shows that Marshall is not afraid to deviate from their standard palette to create a well-thought look.

It all begins with the iconic M on the side of the helmet, simple yet in a well-conceived scheme around the school colors. The outlining in black is a nice touch that makes the kelly green letter pop against the white helmet. That trend continues with the numbering on jerseys, which allows players to be more easily identifiable for fans in every section of the stadium.

Most of their uniform selections would fit right in with the teams of the 1960s that led up to the heartbreaking crash that wiped out the 1970 roster and coaching staff. The incorporation of modern looks like the one above are rare and timed to great effect, putting Marshall squarely among the 50 best-dressed teams in college football.
