Ranking the 50 most visually-appealing college football uniforms
By Zach Bigalke
Among the service academies, none are quite as well-dressed as Navy. Whether wearing their classic navy blue jerseys with gold pants and helmets, or one of their many amazing iterations of alternate uniforms produced in recent seasons, the Midshipmen are the most stylish Group of Five team in college football.
The iconic blue-and-gold look is one that you can see throughout college football. If this were all Navy donned on the field, they might not make the cut of the top 50 best-dressed teams in the sport. Where they separate themselves from the other service academies, other Group of Five teams and even other traditional powerhouses is in their embrace of alternate uniforms for big games.
The embrace of the anchor on the side of the helmet has been a nice touch for some games where white helmets are warranted. Where they have separated themselves most, though, has been in their Army-Navy Game looks.
From the flag-inspired stripes of 2014 to the various classes of ships on the side of the 2015 helmets to the 2017 Blue Angels effort and last year’s Bill the Goat look, Navy always turns the amps to 11 when they play the Black Knights of West Point. Those looks have set the Midshipmen apart as one of the most innovative dressers in college football.
