3. Eric Sogard

Nerd power is back and better than ever. Infielder Eric Sogard is on the radar for many reasons, such his ability to play multiple positions, and he is having his best season at the plate. Sogard is batting .305 with 10 home runs and 30 RBI. He was a nice upside play that the Toronto Blue Jays took on. The issue with the Rays acquiring him is that he is on a division rival, but that may not matter this year with the Jays being sellers.

The infielder would be a great addition to the club for his veteran presence and career year. He shouldn’t come at a huge cost since he is a free agent at the end of the season. This would be the type of move the Rays would make, adding a rental player who is having a good year. Tampa could put Sogard in the top or round out the bottom of the order. He would bring left-handed pop that is versatile for any situation.

Tampa has the prospect power to entice the Blue Jays and still come away winners of the trade. Sogard would be a nice complimentary piece for the Rays, as he is the type of player Tampa is known for. With the team being buyers at the trade deadline, this is the move they should make. The club may even bring Sogard back if there is mutual interest. The Rays could be one piece closer to October.
