2. Danny Santana

Danny Santana is another versatile player having a career year. Santana is hitting .320 with 13 home runs and 36 RBI. The utility player is starting his prime years at age 28, and still has three years of control. He would be one of the bigger costs via trade, but he brings versatility and skill from both sides of the plate.

With the Texas Rangers being sellers, they will be asking for a lofty price on Santana. The Rays could make the move if they really like what the player brings to the table in the present and down the road.

Tampa would be getting control and affordability, which is the team’s go-to when acquiring players. Although the ask would be high, the Rays would be getting a difference-maker who provides depth in the field and at the plate. Tampa is the type of team that has the talent to seal the deal over other clubs.

The team is in a position to acquire controllable players, and there may be no better fit for the Rays than Santana. A switch-hitter who can play multiple positions is of great value to many teams, especially Tampa. The Rays seem to be more likely to acquire a rental piece, but if the ask is reasonable, there is a deal to be made.
