Daily Fantasy Baseball: Top Value Plays – FanDuel
SP – Jose Suarez – Los Angeles Angels – $6,200
Moving on to FanDuel, this looks like a great slate to get creative at the SP position for GPP play. Other than Jose Berrios versus Lucas Giolito, we do not really have any aces on this slate, and with those two squaring off in Chicago, a solid case can be made for not using either tonight. The Twins are hitting, and Giolito has been cooling off a bit, and on the flip side of that, Berrios has had some trouble in the past with the White Sox, and is a much better pitcher at home. With Suarez as cheap as he is, we will be able to pick our top stack with a top one-off, while only needing Suarez to get 5-6 K’s if he can pick up a win as well.
If you are unfamiliar, Suarez is just 21-years-old and is currently the second-ranked prospect in the Angels system. He has thrown just over 39 innings in AAA, and just over 39 innings in the majors in 2019, and is currently striking out over 10 hitters per nine innings at the major league level. He is getting hit hard, and giving up the long ball, but along with the K upside, he also has one of the best match-up’s on the slate, as he will face the Baltimore Orioles at home.
OF – Jordan Luplow – Cleveland Indians – $2,800
Death, Taxes, and Luplow against lefties. Someday FanDuel will just price him over $3K so I can move along, but the Indians will face the Royals and lefty Mike Montgomery tonight in Kansas City, so this is lock city for me. These teams just squared off a week ago with Montgomery on the mound, and he was chased out very early, allowing five earned runs on six hits in just two innings.
It wasn’t Luplow that got to him that night, as Oscar Mercado stole the show going 5-for-5, but a full-on four-man Indians stack in this spot looks like it might be the course of action. With Suarez in the pitcher spot, and Luplow offering up some more value, I can add Mercado, Francisco Lindor, and Jose Ramirez to start my GPP lineup, and have just over $3,500 per spot for my last four spots.
Montgomery has been especially bad against lefties this season albeit in just eight total innings, so Jason Kipnis and Jake Bauers could also offer value as a lower owned pivot. Montgomery has given up 22 earned runs in just 29 innings pitched in 2019, giving up seven home runs along the way. He is nothing more than extended opener really having not pitched more than 3.1 innings in any start, and targeting the less than stellar Royals bullpen with switch-hitters like Lindor and Ramirez makes this stack even more enticing.
