After a good run in the Gold Cup, it is time to look forward to who should be called up to the USMNT for CONCACAF Nations League and beyond.

The United States Men’s National Team recently lost in the final match of the Gold Cup against Mexico. The squad showed a lot of promise during the tournament, and new members of the team played well.

There were some injuries and some players were left off to play in U20 World Cup. Below are five U.S. Men’s National Team players who should be called up for CONCACAF Nations League and ultimately World Cup Qualifying.

1. Timothy Weah

Timothy Weah is the son of George Weah, the former Ballon d’Or winner. Weah has always showed promise in the games he has played for the U.S. Men’s National Team senior team and during the U20 World Cup. Weah would be great as the striker up front, or split out wide to give Josh Sargent a chance to play. With development of his one-on-one skills and overall on-ball game, he could become a great scorer.

He recently played for Paris Saint-Germain and was on loan to Celtic where he scored four goals in 17 appearances. Next season, he will play for LOSC Lille in Ligue 1.

2. Josh Sargent

Josh Sargent seems to be the player most fans and analysts are sold on as the future of the U.S. men’s team and for good reason, which is why there was confusion when he was ultimately left of the Gold Cup roster. Whenever he has gotten the chance to play at striker he has shown a great field presence and a nose for the ball. During the U20 World Cup, he was awarded the Silver Boot. He has the most promise out of any of the younger men’s team players, and with experience he will only get better.

He currently plays for Werder Bremen in Bundeslinga and scored two goals in his first season.

3. Tyler Adams

Tyler Adams was ready to make a splash in the Gold Cup for the United States but unfortunately had to miss the tournament due to a groin injury. He plays fast and with a lot of heart in the midfield and will make life difficult for teams on both ends of the pitch. He has a great feel for the pitch and understanding of the game. Plus he has enough athleticism to cover the field.

Adams currently plays for RB Leipzig.

4. Cameron Carter-Vickers

Cameron Carter-Vickers still has a lot to prove, but with time he will only get better. Giving him his chance to prove his skills on the national stage will be great for his development. He is good defender on the ball and provides a strong presence on defense. He also is a strong passer who can kick start runs on offense. He has all the makings of a great center back.

He currently plays for Tottenham and showed some promise while on loan to Swansea.

5. Deandre Yedlin

Deandre Yedlin has played in plenty of matches for the Men’s National Team, but he missed the Gold Cup due to injury. He is a big part of the defense, and hopefully he can get back to form and be a part of the squad during CONCACAF Nations League. He will also bring in some veteran presence to help lead the younger players.

He currently plays for Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The future of the U.S. Men’s National Team looks bright. If the full team is healthy they will be looking to make a statement during the CONCACAF Nations League. As they get more experience playing on the team and together, they will be a force to be reckoned with. This squad has a chance to go farther than any U.S. Men’s team has in the World Cup if everything goes right in 2020 in Qatar and beyond.
