NFL Fantasy Football: Where should you play NFL DFS? An Unbiased Perspective
The 2019 NFL Fantasy Football season is approaching fast! Before it starts, it is worth taking a look at each DFS site to see which one best suits your style of play before you deposit your hard-earned money, in hopes of that huge payday.
I have played daily NFL Fantasy Football on Yahoo, Fantasy Draft, DraftKings and FanDuel since the birth of each DFS site, and there are plenty of differences between all of them. Roster construction, scoring, rake (management fees), are all things that you should consider before just depositing on that site that your buddy plays on and told you about. If you want to give yourself a chance to win, you should eventually try them all to see which best fits you.
So who am I? My name is Chris Aliperto and I am known mostly around these parts for my PGA contributions, but I also do a bit of MLB, and I was a regular contributor for NFL DFS here last year as well when we were still the blog known as FantasyCPR.
I will be writing the early slate for FanDuel again like I did last season, and I will likely add a piece or two as time permits. If there is interest, I would love to cover Yahoo and/or Fantasy Draft, but we have tried quite a few times for different sports including NFL in the past, and nothing seems to get the attention it needs for us to keep it going.
If you are completely new to NFL DFS, this article will help you prepare for this upcoming season and maybe help you decide where you want to play. If you have played but maybe you want to finally take the plunge and try a new site because maybe your site just raised the rake again, or you had another horrible customer service experience, then this article targets you as well.
I will go site by site and talk about differences to pay attention to and keep in mind there are more options than just the big four that I will cover here. DRAFT and Drafters offer weekly snake drafts, and Fanball is another smaller DFS company where you can find some good overlay, and also has a completely different platform.
The casual player may only know DraftKings and FanDuel, but Yahoo is gaining steam this season by offering guaranteed overlay contests and no management fee contests for other sports. When Fantasy Draft launches its new rake-free system, it could increase overall player volume there as well.
I will cover the differences from each site, and do it going site-by-site. Pay attention to scoring, as each site does things differently. I will not spell them all out, but the biggest example here is that DraftKings is a full PPR scoring system, and FanDuel is .5 PPR. What I will do is post an outgoing link to each site’s scoring system, so be sure to check those out as you read along.
