Dana stepping in to stop McGregor-Khabib twitter feud

By Thomas Albano

In the wake of Conor McGregor’s second brief retirement from MMA, he and Khabib Nurmagomedov engaged in a Twitter feud that got ugly and out of hand. Fortunately, after all the controversy their feud already brought, Dana White was there to shut it down.

McGregor posted a photo of the current UFC lightweight champ and his wife from their wedding, commenting “Your wife is a towel” in reference to her traditional, religious attire. Nurmagomedov responded by calling McGregor a rapist, referring to his alleged sexual assault in Ireland.

After outcries from fans and fighters, White and UFC brass had seen enough, with the UFC president calling the tweets “unacceptable” and giving stern conduct warnings to both camps.

White and the UFC have faced criticism for allowing the feud between McGregor and Nurmagomedov to get too personal — from the use of the UFC 223 bus incident as fight hype to the aftermath of their UFC 229 fight  — but this moment brought praise and relief from the MMA community.

All those times White lost his mind

By Joe McDonagh

Let’s be honest, Dana White has always had some pretty hilarious reactions to situations, especially earlier in his career as the UFC’s head honcho. From the early seasons of TUF where he had no fear of telling it how it was, to his fights with Ariel Helwani at press conferences or his reactions to fighters Octagon appearances, White has said it all. Now many may look at these moments and say White was being over the top, or being harsh on certain folks. Let’s remember that this is a man who helped turn the UFC into a billion-dollar company and it is moments like these that help us understand how he did it.

Sure, they are hilarious and certainly can be considered over the top at times, but this is the reactions needed when you are the man in charge of hundreds of fighters attempting to make it big and make a paycheck. Love or hate White, there is no argument to be made, this man cares about what he does, he is passionate about what he does, and whether you are a TUF fighter attempting to win a contract, or a champion defending your belt, you aren’t safe from White ripping you apart if he feels it is necessary.
