MLB DFS Pitching Plays

Robbie Ray  – Hello pitchers against the fish. Miami hits more GB than any other team in the league, at 52% against LHP. Depending on who is in the lineup, the K rate will sit between 20-22%. Robbie has a 4.09 xFIP, 31% K rate, 40% GB rate, and 41.7% HC.

Yes, Ray gives up more FB, and has a higher ISO to RHH, where he will see possibly nine hitters, but he still strikes out 30% of them, and Miami is not a team with any power at all. This makes the match-up much less risky, and a very safe spot for one of our cheaper stud plays.

Pitch Mix  – In July, Ray bumped up his fastball usage to 50% on RHH, dropping the slider to 19%, curve 19%, and sinker 11%. The slider and curve are both getting over 50% whiffs, with the sinker and curve getting over 40% GB.

The decreased slider usage could have been a result of the very high ISO against it, and low GB rate. The fastball gets over 10 inches of vertical movement as well, and Miami struggles to hit the easiest of fastballs. Overall, he is my favorite stud pitcher on the slate.
