MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Gas Can of the Night

Jordan Zimmerman @ Los Angelas Angels

I revived this segment of the Primer just so I could lambaste Zimmerman for the terrible pitcher he has become this season and implore you to stack Angels bats tonight.

Zimmerman has everything we are looking for in a pitcher to stack against. His ERA is now over 7 runs but his xFIP of 5.34 is equally unimpressive. He isn’t missing bats, striking out only 15% of hitters while giving up 40% hard contact. His ground ball rate is all the way down to 38% which has led to 9 homers allowed in only 60 innings pitched.

He actually started the year out with two good starts before completely falling apart. Since those first two starts, he’s allowed 4 runs or more in 8 of his next 11 starts. Lately, he’s been downright terrible, allowing 24 earned runs in his last four starts while failing to make it out of the fourth inning in any of them.

The Angels offense is talented and deep. Trout and company should feast on Zimmerman and could easily pile on a bunch of runs against the Tigers poor bullpen arms. The ballpark in L.A. is a sneaky good hitters’ park and the Angels already have a Vegas total over 6 runs. Use the Halos as your late-night hammer and win all the monies!
