15 college football coaches who would be the life of the tailgate party
3. James Franklin, Penn State
James Franklin is an emotional guy and he’s always going to let you know how he feels. Did your elbow cross the edge of the table in a game of beer pong? Did your foot cross the front of a cornhole board? Did you not count the points correctly in either game? He’s going to let you know about it, but at least it’ll keep you honest.
Franklin just seems like the kind of guy who can be intense but also extremely loyal. Sure, he left a program like Vanderbilt after building it up, but he put in his time and his players loved him. He took a bigger opportunity at one of college football’s premier coaching destinations and helped turned the Nittany Lions back into winners.
The fiery head coach knows how to get the job done and even though he’ll always voice his opinion whether it’s popular or not, he’ll make up for it with a case of your favorite adult beverage. He’s the kind of guy who will fight you over the rules of a game but would also give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.
Also, he’s a heck of a salesman as evidenced by his recruiting success, at least when guys aren’t decommitting, so he could walk around campus with you and probably be able to swindle some free hot dogs, burgers and drinks from other tailgates.
