Welcome to FanSided Fantasy’s PGA Power Rankings for this week’s Wyndham Championship, taking place at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

This PGA Power Rankings article will cover the top 20 golfers for this week’s event, and with each golfer will come a short blurb with some justification to their respective rankings. Before we do that, let’s touch briefly on the history of this event.

PGA Power Rankings: The 2019 Wyndham Championship – Course and History

August will be here very soon, and with that comes the FedEx Cup playoffs. Before we get there though, we have the last official event of the PGA Tour regular season this week, the Wyndham Championship. The best golfers in the world have just played in back-to-back weeks at the Open Championship and at last week’s WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, so most will sit this one out this week with a spot safely secured in the playoffs.

Webb Simpson, Patrick Reed, and Brandt Snedeker highlight this week’s field, as all are past champions here at Sedgefield Country Club, and all three are among the best in overall tournament history at the Wyndham Championship. They will be joined by the electric trio of rookies making waves in Matthew Wolff, Viktor Hovland, and last week’s Barracuda Championship winner, Collin Morikawa.

There were early reports that Morikawa was out after his win pushed him into postseason eligibility, but it has been confirmed now that he will indeed tee it up at Sedgefield this week. The top 125 golfers in the final FedEx Cup standings will play in next week’s Northern Trust, and the top 70 after scores are calculated will advance to the BMW Championship.

For these guys near the bottom of the standings to continue to advance, they will likely need top-20 finishes this week at the very least, and this is what makes the PGA playoffs exciting. The final 30 will tee it up at the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Georgia at the end of August to officially put an end to the 2019 PGA season. It won’t be long before we have golf again, however, as the official 2020 FedEx Cup season will begin on September 12th at the Miltary Tribute at the Greenbriar.

Sedgefield Country Club is a plotter’s course, playing at just over 7,100 yards and par 70. Accuracy is most important here, and any length off the tee is not any advantage. The greens are Bermuda as they were changed in 2012, and they are rather smallish and undulating. Accuracy off the tee, greens in regulation and Bermuda putting are the key metrics of note.

Last but not least Jordan Spieth will also join the field, as he was one of the last entries in, committing in the middle of last week. He returns to Sedgefield Country Club for the first time since he lost in a playoff here to Patrick Reed in 2013. Spieth is currently just inside the top-70 in the FedEx Cup standings and is no doubt looking to gain some points here heading into next week. Without further ado, let’s check out this week’s top-20 PGA Power Rankings.
