Audible has brought on The Good Place’s William Jackson Harper as the voice talent for Wally Roux, Quantum Mechanic. Hear a sample of the upcoming solo play here.

For fans of William Jackson Harper who may be too squeamish to see Midsommar right now, or can’t wait to see him in The Good Place later this year, Audible has you covered.

In a new Audible original, Harper brings to life play Wally Roux, Quantum Mechanic –out Aug. 1. And we have a sneak peek clip to share with you below.

Audible describes the play, written by Audible Emerging Playwright Nick Carr, as the following:

"Wally Roux, Quantum Mechanic is a charming and sweet solo play that follows a teenage genius with a big imagination as he investigates a hiccup in the timespace fabric of his neighborhood."

You can listen to the audio excerpt here:

In the clip, we get an intimate introduction to Wally’s character. By the summary, we know he’s a genius, but his genius may keep him out of touch with the rest of the world. Just take his interaction with Heather, with whom he really experiences the magic of listening to music for the first time. We have a feeling there will be a lot more sweet self-discovery moments like this in the rest of the play.

For fans of The Good Place, especially, you may notice that Wally shares some characteristics with Harper’s character, Chidi. Both are super intellectuals, and they often struggle with relating to the world around them if not seen through an analytical lens. The casting for this was perfect, and it’s clear to see why Harper fits the bill for Wally.

You’ll note that despite it being a play, Harper voices the entire story: voices, narration and all. For anyone not used to audiobooks, it may take a moment to adjust to. But in this clip alone, Harper gives a fine performance of playing both roles.

The solo play runs for 1 hour and 55 minutes — about the length of your typical play or movie, but significantly shorter than typical audiobooks you may be used to hearing.

Still, you may want to pace yourself when listening to this, unless you become so entwined in the story that you feel compelled to listen to the nearly 2-hour play all in one sitting. (And honestly, we wouldn’t blame you if you did.) If that’s the case, we encourage you to find someplace to get comfortable, grab a cup of tea or your favorite drink, and sit back and relax.

Don’t forget, Wally Roux, Quantum Mechanic will be out on Audible Aug. 1.
