25. Best college football teams of all-time:1968 Ohio State

This 1968 installment of the Buckeyes football team has stood the tests of time as one of the greatest teams that Ohio State has ever fielded, despite some absolutely stellar teams emerging along the way.

With Rex Kern slotting in under center and Jim Otis in the running back position, this Buckeyes team fielded an extremely powerful offense. The other side of the ball wasn’t shabby either and with “The Assassin” Jack Tatum leading the defense, they found great success at shutting down opposing offenses as well, while running up their own score.

Though perhaps not playing the toughest schedule on our list, this team did go head-to-head with some harsh opposition. In their Oct. 12 game, they lined up on the gridiron against a then-No. 1 ranked Penn State team at home, shutting them out in a 13-0 win.

This Buckeyes team also went up against No. 16 Michigan State in a rivalry game at home, before eventually clashing with the No. 4 Michigan Wolverines in a matchup hailed as “The Game.” They sealed their bid for the Rose Bowl with a 50-14 guillotine-chop of a game in that matchup, before defeating No. 2 USC in the Rose Bowl.

This national championship team remains one of the best teams the Buckeyes have fielded and that highly rated rivalry game against Michigan could serve as an indicator for what we may even see in the next college football season.
