Jane the Virgin continues its fifth and final season on Wednesday night with episode 18, “Chapter Ninety-Nine.” Here’s how to watch the episode online.
It is time to say goodbye to Jane the Virgin with a two-hour farewell event that begins with a retrospective look back at the series. The cast will share memories from the series before the actual finale.
So, in honor of this retrospective being the 99th episode of Jane the Virgin, let’s take a quick look back at the final season so far.
Of course season 5 began with the big reveal that Michael is alive. Rose gave him amnesia and he has been living on a ranch in Montana as Jason. Jane, because of who she is, takes it upon herself to help Micheal get his memories back. Soon, the Michael/Jane/Rafael triangle to back in full force, despite it being clear that Jane the Virgin no longer has a place for Michael.
Eventually, Jane comes to the realization that she will always love Michael but her life is with Rafael now. After a few episodes apart, Jane and Rafael find their way back to each other and that is where we are heading into the finale.
Dragging out the Michael storyline this season when it was clear that Jane and Rafael were endgame was a lower point of the season. That time could have been used to do more with Rose’s story this season. Her demise last week was great in terms of the call backs to season 1, but it all felt rushed.
Luckily, the good far outweighed the bad in this final season of Jane the Virgin especially because it provided us with the greatest relationship of the series. Jane and and Petra forming a sister like bond. Looking back at the series it would be hard to imagine that a hiccup in Jane and Rafael’s wedding is that they both wanted Petra as their best man/maid of honor.
