Quarterback power rankings: Best college football quarterbacks of 2019
1. Trevor Lawrence, Clemson
Trevor Lawrence’s arrival to college football was hyped for years, ever since his standout play in high school. It made him the top recruit of the 2018 class, with Clemson as the landing spot, after they lost Deshaun Watson to the NFL and needed the next man up after Kelly Bryant.
Well, Lawrence was talented enough to snatch the starting job from Bryant in the first quarter of the 2018 season and ran away with it.
The all-around talent flashed immediately, even as a true freshman. Lawrence played like one of the most experienced quarterbacks in not just the ACC, but the nation, with a dominant, final six weeks of the season and flawless play in the College Football Playoff.
On Clemson’s path to the title, Lawrence combined for 674 yards and six passing touchdowns. This pushed them past Notre Dame and Alabama, which made it even more impressive and placed him atop college football as the sport’s best quarterback.
Amazingly, there are two more years of Lawrence in Clemson. A No. 1 overall selection in 2021 awaits him, and as long as he stays healthy, whoever is the NFL’s worst team, record-wise, will gladly welcome this generational talent. College football gets to enjoy his talents in the meantime, and it could result in another title in January 2020.
