5 reasons Browns can win the Super Bowl this year
2. The Browns have a top flight receiver in Odell Beckham
The NFL has become a passing league, and the Cleveland Browns are poised to have one of the top passing attacks in the NFL. Baker Mayfield was already set to throw to Jarvis Landry and David Njoku, but the passing game took a huge step forward with the acquisition of Odell Beckham Jr.
The addition of Beckham was an absolute stunner since it is rare to see a top five wide receiver get traded, but that is exactly what happened when the Browns took advantage of the Giants’ eagerness to move on from Beckham. There is no questioning Beckham’s physical ability, which has been on full display since his dazzling three-finger touchdown grab against the Cowboys as a rookie.
Beckham has caused frustration with Giants’ fans over his desire to be the focal point of the offense, particularly when he called out Eli Manning publicly over his inability to get him the football in a bizarre ESPN interview last season. That shouldn’t be an issue in Cleveland, where Beckham will go from the declining Manning to an up-and-coming Mayfield.
Mayfield can make every throw in the book, and now the Browns gave him a huge target to connect with in Beckham. Beckham does have concerns with drops every now and then, but he will also make highlight reel plays and can take a five yard slant 80 yards to the house just like that.
That kind of big play weapon is something Cleveland hasn’t had since Josh Gordon was running routes before running into problems with the NFL’s drug policy. Beckham is the kind of game breaking weapon that can shatter defenses and carry the Browns to a title.
